​JOB DESCRIPTION: ADVOCATE FOR STREET CHILDREN

​

Agape Scholars International, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that works with international
organizations and community-based partners to create conditions in which all children have
equal opportunities to achieve optimal education. To achieve its mission, Agape Scholars
International designs and facilitates community-level education programming, provides tailored
assistance services to protect the rights of street children, engages in research and evaluation,
and offers a range of support to vulnerable children.


 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

​

This position is responsible for advocating for the legal rights and well-being of children, particularly those involved in international adoption/guardianship cases, civil and legal rights of street children and orphans, and those with disabilities.  The Advocate for Street Children will conduct legal research, prepare documents, represent street children and the organization, and collaborate with legal professionals and child welfare organizations. The Advocate for Street Children position requires excellent research, analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills as well as professional discretion, independent judgment, and diplomacy.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

​

  • Conduct research and analysis of international child law and adoption/guardianship laws.

  • Represent children in legal proceedings, including court hearings, trials, and mediation.

  • Advocate for the best interests of the child in all legal matters.

  • Collaborate with other legal professionals, child welfare organizations, and social workers.

  • Provide legal advice and support to children and their families.

  • Stay up to date on changes in international child law.

  • Maintain accurate case records and documentation.

  • Attend training and conferences to enhance legal knowledge and skills.

 EDUCATION: 

​

  • PHD in International Law

  • Comprehension and cultural competence in countries with lowest GDP.

  • Strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Knowledge of relevant international treaties and conventions.

  • Experience with international immigration law or child custody disputes is preferred.

  • Proficiency in several languages. 

  •  

 EXPERIENCE:

 Bachelor’s degree in relevant professional field with a minimum of five years’ experience working on community-based issues.

 â–ª Strong understanding of community-based programming

 â–ª Demonstrated interest and/or strong understanding of public health issues 

 â–ª Experience and strong interest in providing technical assistance

 â–ª Willingness to engage in continuous learning and training

 â–ª Demonstrated professional and political aptitude

 
 HIRING SALARY: To be negotiated


 ESTIMATED START DATE: June 1, 2025 - June 30, 2025


 JOB LOCATION: IL, MD


 TRAVEL: Estimated travel: 25-30% annually.
