Meet Our Scholars

 This is Sarah Chigora, an adorable six year old in the first grade through Agape Scholar's Back to School Project.She has one other sister and lives with her parents in Mbayani. As a family they attend the Nazareth Church.Sarah says that her mother is her biggest inspiration because she is such a hard worker.

Sarah loves that through this program she has the opportunity to hear God's Word and also to have an education. She hopes that she can pray to God to give her a bright future. She describes herself in these five words: cheerful, happy, hardworking, loving, and humble.

Precious Makondetsa is a ten year old student in Agape Scholar's Back to School Program. With two other brothers, he is the oldest sibling in his family. Together they live with their mother in Mbayani. Sadly, they lost their father and have had to make ends meet without him. This proves to be very financially difficult for the family to meet their basic needs. As a family they worship at the Catholic Church.

Mercy Nasala born in the region of the Mulanje mountains. Sadly, after the death of her parents, Mercy and her sister were taken in by her Aunt Mary and raised in the district of Mbayani in Blantyre. Unfortunately, her aunt has had a difficult time finding employment in a country with such high poverty. This proves to be very difficult for Mercy as she tries to receive an education.  Although she is a generally happy girl, she often feels very sad and worried when she remembers the death of her parents. That is a huge weight to carry at fourteen years of age.

Through Agape Scholars International's newest program, we are sending students who have dropped out of school, back to school! In the area of Mbayani, many students are dropping out at vast rates due to a lack of financial resources but also due to overcrowding in schools where students outnumber teachers 300:1.

Jafali Mtenje is a student in this program. He lives with his parents and five other siblings.
